Satan's beard

FIRST- I absolutely recognise the necessity for a spirit-warming winter festival!!
BUT-
Modern Christmas is  a travesty, a Saintly Beard disguising the ugly face of the real event CRASSMASS: gross orgy of consumption and Sanctified, socialised OCD of shopping! All year round, year in year out,  our sensibilities are enfeebled and controlled by saturation advertising and programmed Consumption propaganda.

-property makeover shows-go get yourself a nice easy-money buy to let property portfolio!

-gross promotion of the car cult. The degenerate 'American dream'-a monstrous SUV!

-millionaire type quiz shows. 'Dinnerlady wins a hundred and fifty million'...  'It could be you!'

-Sex in the City type entertainment shit-it's just so cool and kooky to obsess about and spend a fortune on shoes and bags and frocks!

Christmas has been hijacked as the celebratory crescendo of this crap culture of  idiotic waste and exploitation. The nativity is effectively forgotten. All that Spiritual/Christian stuff got dumped decades ago. Mammon rules: so Santa Claus is a much more useful icon here than a stubbornly socialistic Jesus.  Kerching kerching, ding dong merrily on high his praises ring in malls around the world.

Satan may be supernatural but Evil isn't. It's real, insidious and very very banal!
                                                                                                                Ho Ho Ho!

Here's my anti consumerist Christmas design idea. It's a nice idea but my graphic design(see above) left a lot of room for improvement! I put this on a sweatshirt and understandably people tend to misread the text as SANTA'S BEARD rather than the actual - SATAN'S BEARD.

Beard here is used in its sense of cover, alibi, or disguise. Check out the case of Radovan Karadzic for a cheeky and very literal application! Karadzic Linky.

Santa Claus's colours happen to be red and white 'cos Saint Nicholas(Auld Nick?!) is Cokes Patron Saint of Marketing.
